Carlos Flores Statement:

Agua Fria:
This is a portrait of my son and I.  It's a scene where I'm giving him one of his first baths.  I loved doing this when he was just a newborn.  I used to hold him tenderly while I poured water over his head and body to wash him.  Sometimes, the flow of warm water was not consistent, so we used to have to wait for the water to warm up a bit.

Eve:
This is Eve, but not the one everyone is used to seeing.  This is my Tropical Eve.  In her left hand, she holds a slice of juicy, bright red watermelon instead of the commonly used and boring apple.  In her right hand, she holds a needle and thread, in anticipation of things to come.  Unfortunately, when Eve and Adam realized they were nude, they felt the need to rush to cover themselves up.

A Place Like No Other:
There is no better or safer place for a baby than in his or her loving parent's arms.  This is a portrait of my beautiful son while I was holding him.  This was the place where he felt most comfortable and secure, the place where he wanted to remain.
A Place Like No Other I:
The maternal version of this piece came after I created the fraternal one.  This is another portrait of my son while in his mother's arms.  There's nothing more wonderful for soothing our souls and calming our spirits than to feel the warm touch of those who love us the most.

Frida y Diego:
After I painted "Frida", "Frida y Diego" was the next logical succession in the series.  Frida's small frame contrasts against the massive image of Diego's body.  She lovingly caresses Diego's hand while posing for this portrait.

Frida:
One of the first portraits I created was that of Frida.  Her nostrils are depicted by a couple of tears that represent the deep pain and suffering she endured throughout most of her life. In spite of so much adversity, she was always so beautifully adorned, which I have tried to portray in this interpretation of her.  In this image, she is accompanied by her monkey.

Bush Llit:
A portrait of Mr. Bush and an unmistakingly reasonable commentary on most of the stuff that came out of his mouth whenever he decided to use it.

Picasso:

Picasso's portrait depicts the wrinkles that formed on his forehead while he rested his bald head on his hand.  The black and white striped shirt he used in the photo I utilized as reference for this portrait was replaced by a more colorful one.

Dali:
This depiction of Dali shows an exaggerated look of his very peculiar mustache.  He holds in his hand a sea star which he used to cover his left eye in one of his many portraits.

Warhol:
This is Warhol, the always colorful and controversial pop art icon.  I painted his nostrils in two different colors in reference to his silkscreen prints.

La Siesta:
This peaceful and tender scene portrays a mother and her son taking a nap on the couch after breastfeeding.  This is another one of my son's baby portraits.  It was joyful to be a witness to such scenes and yearn to document them again.

Pedro's Dilemma:
This is the image of a little boy I saw in Tijuana while he was shopping with his mother.  As I walked passed him, his intriguing and inquisitive stare captivated me, and I quickly felt the need to capture it in a painting.  I decided to name this piece "Pedro's Dilemma".  Although the title clearly suggests that Pedro has a dilemma, it was not really he, but I, who had it, because, initially, I couldn't think of a more fitting title for it.
